Hope everyone was able to observe and enjoy the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

I was in the office, as usual today… it is a Monday you know…

I think things are getting back into order. My insurance is slowly getting things in order to deal with my case and compensate me (I guess). But if you know anyone selling a 4Runner from 96-98 with 160,000 or more miles, let me know. I’m supposed to be doing research for comparable cars… but this past weekend, I was playing softball with my Powerhouse team. It was good to see a lot of familiar faces out, and while we didn’t do very well, a good time was had by all.

Yesterday was the last game of the fall American Legion u19 baseball season for Iolani. I had a lot of fun coaching those kids this year. There were some familiar faces from last year, but many new ones as well. FYI for prep baseball fans out there, Iolani is a team on the rise… and that’s not just me taking up for my alumni. These kids are talented and Coach Kurt has the energy to get us back to the prominence we are accustomed to!!!

Aside from that, it’s the usual… apparently none of my friends won the lottery so it’s back to work!!!

HAPPY NEW YEARS Ka Hale Ola Massage Therapy BLOG readers!!!

I am sorry for not posting during the holiday season… Between the usual good stuff like work at the office, baking for family and friends, and going out and about to spend time with everyone, I was rear ended by some stupid kid the day after Christmas right by my office.

I am ok (in fact, I went back to work the following Monday, a little tight on the right side of my neck, but surprisingly unharmed) because my car took the brunt of the damage… In fact, it is totalled. Back bumber destroyed, back window blown out, driver side back door wedged shut, my driver side car seat was in fact, unbolted off the floor at impact… so imagine one second, you’re looking forward and then the next you’re looking up at the ceiling… yeah. The guys excuse was that he was handing something to his kid in the back… with his wife also in the car in the passenger seat. Dumbass could’ve conceivably killed his kid and wife if in fact that’s what he was doing… but I’m sure he was just been a dumb ass and been checking his phone. Regardless, he’s responsible and of course, now liable.

It is difficult to look back on 2015 without it being tainted by what happened at the end of the year. I guess the accident puts things into perspective as well. The usual adages/ plattitudes all kind of make sense and seem like more than just worthless drivel… “carpe diem”, “be thankful for what you have”, “your health is most important”, “YOLO”… So yeah, that was that…

Moving on… Did all of you see Star Wars
The Force Awakens? If not, go see it… well worth your time and money. It’s got all the things you want
Action, nostalgia, intrigue, lightsabers!!!!

I also heard that one of my former coaches, Allan Sato was inducted into the HPU hall of fame!!! Congratulations and so deserving for everythng he did for that program!

And speaking of the Hall of Fame, one of my childhood baseball heroes, Ken Griffey Jr. was inducted into the MLB HOF!!! Junior did things the right was… was beyond reproach during the steroid era, and played the game with a passion and joy you don’t see with many of todays superstars. For those that are too young to have remembered him, check out youtube.

And so with that, the first blog post of the year is done…

November 29th, 2015

Ok, yeah, so I lied about staying current on the blog.. my bad… I guess my excuse was that I was busy the past few days with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and all that other madness, so yeah…

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Black Friday!!!

Happy start of the holiday season!!!

Earlier this month, there were the atrocities that occured in France which were horrible, but I hope that from these terrible events, the United States and the rest of the world will unite to erradicate these terrorists and those that want to disrupt our way of live!!!

.. And then there were the ripple effects of all this unrest in the Middle East with the possibility of Syrian refugees coming to the US but more specifically Hawaii and the uproar that created. There is no right answer to this and I will leave my position as that…

… And then there was the dismissal of Norm Chow… It was bound to happen and the time to act seems more than appropriate to me. I am more than happy to hear that our new coach with be Nick Rolovich!!! I think he brings a youthful energy to a program than is in full rebuild. I think he understands what the Hawaii football program needs and I believe he is more in touch with today’s players…

From the time June Jones left, I thought Rolo would have been the best choice (and really, wherever I talked about Hawaii football, I always said Rolo!!!), but I guess he needed to pay his dues and learn, which I definitely respect and understand.

Well, so now we are in full swing for the holiday season, hopefully I will try to post “more often”?

THE ELEVATOR IS FINALLY FIXED!!!

THE NIGHTMARE IS OVER!!!

IT IS ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!

I want to thank the General Manager, Fredrick Paine, for calling me this past Friday to let me know that it wasn’t going to be fixed on their deadline of Friday October 2nd. He was also upset at KONE industries for not being on the ball and failing to compete their repairs by the deadline.

So we can all get back to doing the business that we want to, without the 4 story walk up!!!

September 29th, 2015

Look who came back in a relatively reasonable amount of time…

In case you’ve missed it, the “Great ASB Elevator Debacle of 2015” may be coming to an end shortly… According to our property manager, Kendall Doi, the elevator should be fixed by this Friday October 2nd. For those out there keeping track, it has been a FULL FIVE WEEKS that the elevator has been broken. During this time, I took to Twitter to complain about our broken elevator and was told to “cease and desist” from what they called “libelous” statements on Twitter regarding the elevator (oh yeah, cheap plug… follow me on @kahaleola to see these “libelous” tweets). They were willing to take me to court if I didn’t do so… No, seriously, they were threatening me…

It really is difficult for a small (or micro) business to stay in business when large corporations or entities don’t seem to care about us. We are just tenants, no, account numbers to these people; no power whatsoever… Let me tell you how…

I pay CAM (community area maintenance) fees with my rent. That’s to pay for things that break, “advertising”, and whatever other “maintenance” in and around the building. With the elevator being broken, I lost revenue from clients that couldn’t or didn’t want to make it up the stairs because they were in pain or for whatever reason… completely valid, and I totally agree. I will not recoup those losses. So I lose money because the elevator was out for 5 weeks, but I will now have to pay a higher CAM, because of something that needed to be fixed… AND I’m pretty confident we will not get any relief from our rent this month. So who wins?

Pearlridge and Glimcher, that’s who

And I have to take it… and like it…

From the bottom of my heart (or whereever my feels come from, since some people think I’m a heartless asshole), I appreciated all the people that had to walk up the stairs for their appointments.

You are awesome.

You really are.

My clients are the reason why I love what I do. Their stories, their words of encouragement, their funny jokes. They are awesome. I know some of you read this, so THANK YOU!!!

So yeah… hopefully the elevator is working the next time you come in…

September 9th, 2015

So… yeah, it’s been like 6 months since I’ve blogged… No real good reason this time, just sheer laziness…

Let’s see what’s happened in the last 6 months… I did a fantasy baseball draft… coached some girls’ softball… played a lot of softball myself… sat in a lot of traffic due to weather, the broken ziplane, random accidents, lane closures due to rail construction, and just a lot of bad drivers… currently surviving through this crazy hurricane season… did a few fantasy football drafts… and oh yeah, our office elevator is broken…

BROKEN…

OUT OF ORDER…

ROLLING INTO THREE WEEKS OF THE ELEVAROR BEING BROKEN!!!

SERIOUSLY…

The only thing our “benevolent” property manager Kendall Doi can muster is a memo stating that it’s broken and there is no timetable for it to be fixed… The only time I saw someone ALMOST look like they looked at our elevator was last week Wednesday. Since then, nothing. Zip… Zero.. Nada… Awesome ain’t it?!?!

So I appeal to you all… please do me a favor (unless you like walking up the stairs) please call Pearlridge 488-0981 and complain for me. I’ve tried to call, but they’ve never returned my call. I’ve even twittered at Pearlridge and no response as well.

I know they don’t really care, but hey, at least you can vent, right?

On a lighter note, there’s a new bar across the way, Blue Tropix… it was pretty cool, I will have to do more research on it later!!!

And yes, I will be back much, much sooner!!!

March 18th, 2015

Ah ha! I came back in less than a month!

So I was able to do a couple of massages this past weekend AND got to play some softball… Fun weekend, only problem is that I got a little dinged up (strained my quad). I’ll be ok so no worries, I’ve been back to work since then…

Oh, and happy belated St. Patrick’s Day!!! Hopefully you all enjoyed some corned beef and cabbage, perhaps some Guinness, maybe even a shot of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey.

…and yeah, my taxes are STILL not done… sweet

I’ll be back later… when I’m procrastinating!!!

March 8th, 2015

We are into March Madness already and I still haven’t done my taxes!!! Ugh… I’ve been busy, but honestly, it’s just been laziness morethan anything else. I guess I am so disinclined to do my taxes, I’m even doing something I’ve equally neglected in recent times, this BLOG!!!

More of the same old, same old for me this weekend. I did go to the Cheesecake Factory this past Friday for a birthday… Damn, they must make a LOT of money. I;ve been hearing that the kids from the Iolani JV team are doing well, so that’s good too!! Unfortunately, I had to buy a new phone because my old one crapped out, but now, I can do a lot more stuff… like play trivia crack!!!

Oh well, this week, we might be all over the place schedule wise. There’s a softball tounrament that I might play in if there’s no appointments, so definitely call ahead if you want to come in!

February 25, 2015

Hopefully you all enjoyed your Valentine’s Day celebrations!!! We were pretty busy that day with a few “couples massages”… yeah, we don’t really do those at the office… like where the two of you are in the same room, holding hands, staring lovingly into each others’ eyes… we have 2 rooms, all your hand holding would get in our way… seriously… get over it!!!

Well, it’s been a little hectic at the office in recent days. I had to attend a funeral for one of my classmate’s moms… and then I’ve had to take care of my own mom since she came down with the flu. Fortunately things are seeming to get back to normal.

I’m looking forward to the new season of Game of Thrones!!! I power watched through the entire 4th season in a few days, did a little digging for stuff on the interwebs, and am now completely cuaght up! I also saw a little bit of Better Call Saul… Seems like a significant depatrue from Breaking Bad, but it will be interesting to see where they go with it!

Oh yeah, I went to the Boyz II Men concert for Valentine’s Day… awesome concert, lived up to all the hype… and boym can they STILL sing!!!

February 2, 2015

So yeah… Merry Christmas…. Happy New Years… Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day… At least I’m early for Valentine’s Day!!!

Anyways, I am back… those that want to get some daily doses of me should head to twitter @kahaleola to hear random rants and various other stuff.

Things are better at the office… Jan is more available now, so if you would like to schedule appointments with her, let us know so we can schedule that. I’m glad that the holiday season is over, not as much traffic to the office… I’ve been a little sick, but I am working through that so whatever…

And about the Super Bowl… all I can say is “Seriously… like… Seriously…”

Anyways, I’m trying to get over that but anyways, come in for an appointment!!!

Oh yeah… I’ll be back!!!
